For the life of me I can’t remember where Skylar and I met for the first time but I’m glad to know the guy. This flip flop wearing, long hair having bearded brother is one of the most talented artists in the FW/D and continues to grow throughout the years. He’s also introduced me to a plethora of new and local talent.
Originally from Brownwood, Texas he’s actually called many places home before settling in Fort Worth roughly 6 years ago. Skylar first picked up the guitar around the age of 18 honing his craft and trying his hand at writing. It wouldn’t be until 21 that he began playing live shows but his dreams of performing go way back.
“When I was a kid I’d sing in the mirror, jump off the couch like the rockstars and things like that. I’ve calmed down a bit though.“
While chasing his musical dream Skylar has held several odd ball jobs such as being a lumberjack, working in a nursing home, on wind turbines, professional penguin grooming, construction and fast food. These jobs took him from Brownwood to California, Minnesota to Oklahoma and everywhere in between. Don’t know about you but I’m happy he’s made Fort Worth his home!
Skylar’s 2017 self titled EP was hugely influenced by life, love and the music business after moving to Fort Worth. The four tracks were produced by Ryan Tharp featuring an All Start line up including Tharp, Jacob Furr, Aaron Stanfield and PawPaw with Grant Jackson Wilborn mixing and mastering.
Skylar is a proud father and spends as much time with his son as possible. He also enjoys playing video games, cooking, taking care of the fish tank and obviously music. When asked if he could write with anybody he was quick to answer Marc Broussard. You can catch Skylar every Wednesday at Filthy McNasty’s and every Sunday at Magnolia Motor Lounge. He always brings special guests and the shows are free!
